Meet Ms. Mary Louise Davis
4th–6th Grade ELA
Welcome to ELA! I am Mary Louise Davis, and it is a privilege to lead our 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students through the world of language arts. Teaching is not just my profession—it is my passion—and I am honored to bring 45 years of educational experience to the Marshall Academy family.
My Background and Experience
I am a lifelong learner with a deep commitment to the craft of teaching. My educational journey began at Northwest Mississippi Community College, where I earned my Associate’s degree, followed by the University of Mississippi, where I received a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction as well as Special Education.
Over my 45-year career, I have taught every grade level from K–12. I hold five different endorsements on my state license and am certified in behavior therapy. My diverse background includes working at the specialized Shrine School in Memphis, which provided me with unique insights into meeting the individual needs of every learner.
My Educational Vision
I believe that every student has the capacity to learn when placed in a student-centered, nurturing classroom led by a teacher who empowers them to love the process of discovery. My goal is to create a space where every student feels supported, safe, and valued without judgment. I strive to foster an environment rooted in community, where students feel encouraged to reach their absolute highest potential.
My Life Outside of School
I have been a proud resident of Holly Springs for sixty-three years. I have two grown children, Lyle and Olivia, and a household made lively by my three dogs: Watson, Athena, and Jewel.
When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy a wide variety of hobbies that keep me busy, including:
- The Arts & Handiwork: I have a love for calligraphy, needlepoint, smocking, and cross-stitch. I also enjoy visiting art exhibits, museums, and antique shopping.
- The Outdoors: You can often find me swimming or riding horses.
- Travel & Culinary Arts: I love traveling to new and different places and cooking for my family and friends.
- Animal Rescue: The hobby dearest to my heart is rescuing and rehabilitating dogs that need a loving, safe home. To date, our family has successfully rehabilitated four dogs that we absolutely adore.
