Are you interested in the law, public speaking, or acting? Do you want to build critical skills that will benefit you for a lifetime while competing at the state level? If so, the Marshall Academy Mock Trial Team is the perfect fit for you!

About Our Team The Marshall Academy Mock Trial Team gives students the unique opportunity to step into the shoes of attorneys and witnesses. Each year, our team prepares a fictional legal case—acting as both the prosecution/plaintiff and the defense—and argues it in a real courtroom setting against other high schools.

Under the dedicated guidance of our coach and sponsor, Mrs. Sarah Taylor and attorney coach Mr. Phillip Knecht, students learn the ins and outs of trial preparation, analyze dense case materials, and construct compelling legal arguments. Marshall Academy has a proud tradition of excellence in the courtroom, highlighted by our team winning 3rd Place overall at the Mississippi State Competition in 2012! The team took a break for about twelve years, but when Mrs. Taylor returned to MA, so did Mock Trial!

Goals of the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Our team proudly aligns with the official goals of the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition. Through our weekly practices and regional/statewide competitions, we strive to:

  • Promote Understanding: Foster a greater understanding of and appreciation for the law, court procedures, and the Mississippi Judicial system.

  • Develop Essential Life Skills: Improve fundamental skills such as critical thinking, reading comprehension, public speaking, and advocacy.

  • Build Community: Enhance communication and cooperation among key community members, including schools, teachers, legal professionals, and citizens.

  • Appreciate Justice: Heighten our students' appreciation for the fundamental principle of equal justice for all.

  • Stay Informed: Promote an awareness of current legal issues.

  • Encourage Meaningful Interaction: Promote the exchange of ideas among students from throughout the state of Mississippi while providing a rewarding, fun, and memorable experience.
